MANUSCRIPT EDITING

Understand the edit, not just the replacement.

Language polishing, argument review and scientific verification are different jobs. The agreed scope states which one is being delivered.

Make the condition and comparison explicit

Original illustrative text, not a client manuscript or a published finding.

Before

We measure the drain current at VDS = 0.05 V. Both groups was tested at the same gate voltages. The treated devices shows a higher current.

Proposed revision

Drain current was measured at VDS = 0.05 V. Both groups were tested at the same gate voltages, and the treated devices showed a higher current.

Why change it?
Correct tense and agreement; join related observations without adding a mechanism or a stronger conclusion.
Ask the author
Confirm whether the reported comparison uses the same temperature and measurement protocol. These conditions have not been added as facts.
  1. Agree the scope

Confirm the target audience, manuscript stage, deliverables, author permissions and data-handling route before any file transfer.

  2. Map the argument

Identify the question, contribution, evidence and boundaries. Separate demonstrated observations from interpretation.

  3. Edit with reasons

Improve language and logical transitions; flag ambiguity rather than silently invent missing scientific details.

  4. Cross-check the package

Compare terminology, units, figure labels, captions and supplied references. Record the exact checked scope.

  5. Return author queries

Deliver tracked and clean text, a change memo and questions that need the author's scientific judgment.

  6. Verify the revision

Apply the agreed revision round and author decisions. Final scientific responsibility remains with the authors.

A delivery package can include tracked and clean text, an edit memo, a terminology list and unresolved author queries. Reviewer qualifications, use of AI-assisted tools, confidentiality and revision rounds must be agreed before a real manuscript is accepted. No claimed native-speaker team or journal affiliation.

SCIENTIFIC FIGURES

Original figures, with the source still attached.

Formatting an existing figure and designing a new illustration have different inputs and effort. Both begin with the scientific message and data rights.

EDITABLE SCIENTIFIC DIAGRAMS

Precise edits, preserved meaning.

The same underlying structure, with clearer labels, visual hierarchy and arrow meanings.

ALD delivery schematic linking a pulse command, delivery volume and surface state.
Individual labels, arrows and shapes remain editable. Open the full-size SVG to inspect the details.

Original conceptual example based on the ALD delivery study. Not a client commission, measured result or equipment drawing. Original figure labels and downloadable files are in English.

Discuss a schematic

One dataset. Linear and logarithmic views.

Original synthetic transfer curves on matching linear and logarithmic axes; reference uses circles and comparison uses squares.
Synthetic portfolio sample. All 61 points per condition are preserved. The initial and revised views use identical values. No smoothing, point removal or invented error bars.

SemiAgora originals. No copied journal figure, client work, publisher endorsement or journal-compliance certification. PNGs are viewing previews; editable source and target-specific checks are separate.

What a figure commission includes

Agree the message and panel plan, map each panel to its source, draft the layout, confirm scientific content with the author, then check legibility and the target journal's requested output.

Editable source, a viewing preview, a caption draft and a data-to-panel record are scoped explicitly. The samples above include their plotting script and CSVs.

Learn from journals. Do not trace their figures.

We study panel hierarchy, typography, colour and evidence presentation. Public portfolio work uses original data or clearly labelled synthetic examples, not copied publisher artwork.

Open access alone is not a substitute for checking the exact licence, third-party credit lines, commercial reuse and adaptation terms. Citation alone does not establish permission.

  • Nature figure specifications - Units, editable text and figure presentation; the target article type must still be checked.
  • Nature panel preparation - Panel arrangement, accessibility and output formats. These samples are not journal-certified submissions.
  • Nature image integrity - Preserve original image data; this guide restricts generative image creation and content-aware editing.

Start with a short email.

Tell us the service, approximate volume and preferred deadline. You can ask about fit before preparing a full brief.

Selected service: Technical English & manuscript editing

Write an inquiry

Your email app opens a draft. Send it there to deliver your inquiry. This page does not submit a request.

After reviewing your inquiry, we can confirm fit and propose a written scope, fee, schedule and revision allowance. Work begins after agreement.

Prefer a structured brief? Add the details here.

Local draft only. Do not enter manuscript text, unpublished findings, raw data, personal contact details or restricted material. Nothing is sent to SemiAgora by these fields.

Non-confidential scope

Complete the brief to prepare an email draft.

No email app? Copy the brief and send it to the address above using your usual email service.

No browser storage or server submission is used for this draft. Fees, timing, revision rounds, file handling and any external-tool use must be agreed before work begins.

Draft fields use English labels; your entered text is kept unchanged.

BEFORE COMMISSIONING

Clear terms protect the research.

What determines the quote?

Editing depth, word count, source quality, panel count, illustration complexity, journal requirements, timing and revision rounds. Manuscript editing is not priced as figure formatting, and a multi-panel redraw is not a single minor format change. No price or delivery time is committed by the brief.

Can I send unpublished or confidential material?

Not through this page. There is no manuscript intake, attachment transfer, payment or account flow. A verified contact route, written data-handling terms, authorized recipients, retention/deletion terms and any external-tool consent must be established first.

Do you guarantee publication or scientific correctness?

No. Editing and figure design support author-owned research; they do not replace peer review, experimental validation, research ethics approval or the author's final responsibility. Missing evidence is flagged, not manufactured.

What work is outside the service?

Fabricated data, hidden manipulation, fake citations, covert ghostwriting, copied journal art, restricted PDK or NDA material, unauthorized disclosure, foundry signoff and production equipment instructions. Any permitted AI assistance must be disclosed and checked against the target journal's policy.
